Watching the holiday football games, it struck me that those of us who follow the markets for a living have a similar job to football scouts. We evaluate the competitors in a great global contest, the free market, trying to decide which ones will outperform going forward and which will fizzle. Just like in the NFL, today’s hot property can become tomorrow’s has-been. Perhaps college draft picks should come with a disclosure statement: past performance may not be indicative of future worth…or words to that effect!
